Degree of Bachelor of Fine Arts Graphic Design Champlain

The Bachelor of Fine Fine art caste with an emphasis in Graphic Design focuses on design thinking, interactive and experience design, inquiry and social practices, and developing professional product skills.

The program combines strategic interdisciplinary relationships with research, cultural investigations and design in a broad range of media. The 4-year program requires a summertime internship, and prepares students for the collaborative, interactive, and participatory nature of careers in design fields and graduate study in related disciplines.

Nearly the Program

Graphic Design is uniquely divers past the diversity of studio and academic courses bachelor within the program. Interwoven with challenging content in literature, history, technology, business and science, are courses that support print and screen-based communication, interactive and motility design, and in-depth work developing a range of technical, conceptual, and design process skills.

Our graphic design graduates work inside diverse fields of professional blueprint including: healthcare and marketing, motility blueprint, blitheness, web design, interactive design, and design practice.

Major Requirements

Students interested in Graphic Design must outset successfully complete the Art Foundation studio classes: ART 131, 132, and 142, and submit an archway portfolio. A limited number of seats are available in the program.

A grade of C or greater must be earned in all required ART classes within the Graphic Blueprint program. If this benchmark is not met students cannot motility forward in the program without beginning retaking the course. Graphic Design students must maintain a iii.0 average in the post-obit courses: Art 270, 271, 371 and 374, to continue in the program.

All required Graphic Design accent studio classes are sequential and must be taken in the semester in which they are offered. These classes are only offered once a year. Getting out of sequence tin outcome in a delay of graduation.

Graphic Design Accent Studio courses require students to have a laptop that meets the arrangement requirements for the electric current Adobe Creative Cloud software applications and an Adobe software license. Students use a range of the Adobe applications throughout the programme. Educational discounts are bachelor for laptops (Dell and Apple) through WCU Data Applied science - Technology Eatables. Adobe also offers educational discounts for its licenses.

The BFA with Emphasis in Graphic Design requires each student to formally apply with a portfolio of work. Students need to submit their entrance portfolio during the spring semester of the Freshman year or the autumn semester of the Sophomore year. Credence is mandatory prior to enrolling in Graphic Design accent studio classes, beyond ART 270 Communication Design.

Incoming students tin submit their entrance portfolio prior to enrolling in classes at WCU. Students should contact Mary Anna LaFratta at lafratta@wcu.edu and John Seefeldt at jseefeldt@wcu.edu. New students for Fall 2022 may submit prior to the start of Fall semester OR wait until the September 23rd portfolio borderline. Delight e-mail Professors LaFratta and Seefeldt to talk over options.

Deadline

The 5th Friday of the fall and bound semesters. The Spring 2022 deadline is Fri February 11, midnight.

The BFA with Accent in Graphic Design requires all students to participate in an internship to graduate. This requirement strengthens the power of graduates to excel in competitive professional opportunities.

Student successes working within the design professions after graduation include employment in: design studios, healthcare and marketing, movement pattern, animation, IT back up technicians, spider web blueprint, and interaction and experience blueprint.

The School of Fine art and Design within the Academy is supported by a vibrant artist/designer lecture series including residencies and summer programs.
